New Years Eve2009 -Party Night with Speed Limit

New Years Eve this year at the Marriot Hotel in Huntingdon provided another new high quality venture from Tony and Angie of Speed Limit to bring together many of the Speed Limit special friends community and provide the opportunity for many friends new to the Country Music scene to join in the fun.

The overall offering was one night B&B, an evening meal, Speed Limit – Tony and Angie on stage, Country Cowboy – Andy King as our DJ during the breaks between the live music sets and after midnight into the early hours.

What a magnificent evening it was for everyone, seemingly endless enjoyment comprising an excellent silver service 4 course meal, an evening of Country Music to please all tastes, a generous raffle, a short time slot to help Cancer Research, welcoming in the New Year and dancing into the early hours.

The silver service 4 course meal for around 70 guests served in the Cambridge Suite consisted of the following; Starters– Avocado and Crab Gateau with a mild Chilli Dressing, Intermediate course of Pink Champagne Sorbet, Main Course of Seared Beef Fillet, Rosti Potato, Shallot and Woodland Mushroom Confit and Port Jus, a dessert of White Chocolate and Raspberry Torte with Framboise Coulis followed by Freshly Brewed Coffee with Petite Fours. A vegetarian option was also available. An excellent meal, perfectly prepared, cooked and very attractively presented by wonderfully courteous and considerate staff from the Marriott Hotel.

Then followed a first class evening of Country Music with Speed Limit on stage which included many favourite numbers from their extensive repertoire for us all as individuals including many of our new friends, many dedications and requests ensuring everyone would feel special and enjoy the entertainment.

The first set with many of our favourite Speed Limit numbers  included; The Wild Wood Rose, What took you so long, Tougher than the rest, Smokey Places and Nowhere Train.

The first break brought some favourite tracks from our DJ until Angie told everyone about our DJ’s sponsored Diet to raise funds for Cancer Research declaring that Andy King had lost some 56lbs in weight and currently had sponsorship to the sum of over £1000. We then had some fun with a “Heads and Tails” competition to raise additional funds with those who wished to join in the fun and Keith winning the “Teddy Bear” prize donated by Speed Limit. We raised £44 to which a kind donation was added to bring an evening total of £50 to add to the fund.

The second set was great fun with Come Dance with me, Mercury Blues and Blue Rose Is among the numbers   performed before Angie and Tony encouraged everyone, particularly those at a Country Music event for the first time and many of the Hotel staff to join in a Barn Dance, Cowboy Charleston and then the Farmers Wife fun dance. It was an absolute pleasure to see everyone having fun by joining in, laughing, learning and helping each other.

The second break brought many country music favourites from Country Cowboy and also the draw for a very generous raffle provided by Angie and Tony.

The third and final set approaching midnight gave us among others;  Making Believe, Mr Man in the Moon, Rose coloured glasses, the Gulf of Mexico and Voices of the Highlands leading up to midnight and welcoming in the New Year with a Glass of Champagne provided by our hosts, Tony and Angie.

We all enjoyed the traditional New Year songs and fun dances such as Auld Lang Syne,  Hokey Cokey,  a very long Conga, some favourite C & W partner dances including Tempted, Louisiana Way and Cotton Eye Joe finishing late on with Happy Trails before helping to tidy up after the event and retiring to bed very early or late depending on the point of view.

This was for us a memorable evening that will stay in our memories for many years.

Many thanks Tony and Angie a great idea in our opinion perfectly executed. We hope to see you all including all our new found friends this New Years Eve with Speed Limit.
